When Dwayne Johnson, better known as the Rock was filming for the TV series, Young Rock, which is a story about his life, he was reminded of a special relationship he’d had with a man named Bruno Lauer. This man had taken him in when he was 15 years old and homeless. So one day, Bruno was invited to the set of the TV series and there the Rock gave a truck to the man to thank him.

Dwayne Johnson’s Difficult Childhood

As a young teenager, the Rock lived in Hawaii with his mother. But times were tough, and his mom eventually wasn’t able to pay her bills. In response, her landlords kicked her and the Rock out onto the streets. Of course, the Rock’s mom wanted to make sure the Dwayne was taken care of so she told him he was moving to Tennesse to live with his dad.

Only when the homeless 15-year-old got off the plane, his dad was nowhere to be found. There was, however, a different man there to pick him up. The man told Dwayne he’d be living with Bruno, a man he’d never met. And sure enough, this Bruno who lived in Walls, Mississippi, took him in, knowing he’d be homeless otherwise.

The Rock explained, “He took this punk kid in, and we became lifelong friends.”

This man’s selflessness and care was seen by the Rock in many ways. For example, Bruno gave Dwayne his last $40 to help him buy his first car. And even years later before the Rock began as a WWE wrestler, he was still struggling to make ends meet; so Bruno let him stay in his home once again.

Looking back at the impact Bruno had on him, the Rock said, God “always found a way to put a few people in my path that would change the trajectory of the road I was going down.”

According to Dwayne, he gave Bruno the nickname, “Downtown Bruno.”

Bruno continued to be there for Dwayne throughout his young life, and Dwayne wanted to thank him; so the rock gave a truck to Bruno as one way of saying thanks.

Watch the whole story, as the Rock and Bruno tell it on Instagram and share why the rock gave a truck to Bruno:
