According to PEOPLE, Tebow took Nel-Peters to his family’s farm on the outskirts of Jacksonville, Florida to pop the big question.

The two lovebirds took a stroll around the property and stopped by a lake where Tebow had placed a specially-made bench engraved with the date they first met. They chatted for a few minutes about their future before he dropped to his knee and said, “Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, I love you. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, will you marry me?”

As the former Miss Universe 2017 emphatically said ‘yes’, Tebow put a 7.25-carat diamond on her finger.

“This ring is internally flawless,” he said. “Just like you.”

Matthew Mole, a South African singer, then came out from hiding and serenaded the engaged couple with one of their favorite tunes, “The Wedding Song.”

But that wasn’t the only big surprise up his sleeve. The 31-year-old secretly flew in Nel-Peters’ family and friends from South Africa to witness the momentous occasion — and his fiancée had NO idea.

He went to great lengths to ensure Nel-Peters was surprised by telling her he invited her family for a belated Christmas dinner with his own family.

Tebow even came up with a second cover-up story to conceal his excitement about the upcoming proposal. He said he was preparing to present his dad with a new truck, and he borrowed a truck wrapped with a big bow to make it believable.

Surprisingly, the former NFL star was pretty calm and collected through it all.

“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” he told PEOPLE. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”

“Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world,” he shared on Instagram today. “You’re the love of my life, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“Any dreams I’ve ever had, you’ve exceeded them all!” wrote Nel Peters on her own Instagram account simultaneously. “I love you and I can’t wait to spend forever with you!”

Back in 2017, Tebow told PEOPLE, “I’m looking, but I just can’t seem to find anyone. I don’t want to be single; I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person.”

“They have to really love God,” he added. “My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”

It seems he’s finally found what he’s been searching for in Nel-Peters.

“She’s just perfect for me,” said Tebow. “I’m really blessed to have her by my side for the rest of my life.”
