“Is That Your New Pink Leg?”: Classmates’ Reaction to 7-Yr-Old’s Prosthetic Leg Goes Viral

As a kid, getting a new haircut or a new pair of shoes is literally the most exciting thing in the world. Partly because it’s something new, but mostly because you’re going to get to show it to everyone at recess…amiright?

This week, Anu—a 7-year-old girl from Birmingham, England—took getting a new pair of shoes to a whole new level.

In a video that has now gone viral and stolen the hearts of the Internet, Anu can be seen confidently making her way out to the asphalt for recess. On one foot she’s got a pretty pink shoe, and on the other—a bright pink sports blade prosthesis!

“Is that your new pink leg?” one girl can be heard asking Anu. Another girl wraps her in a hug that can literally be felt through your computer screen. Each of the kids on the playground circled around in awe, and totally embraced Anu’s newest addition.

Hugs for Anu

Anu is seven and goes to school in Solihull. Look what happened when she showed her friends her new sports blade. It’s gorgeous!

According to BBC Midlands, Anu’s right leg had to be amputated shorty after birth. Her umbilical cord had wrapped tightly around it and cut off the blood circulation. For most of her childhood, she’s grown up using a regular prosthetic leg.

“It makes me run faster and do my street dancing faster,” Anu says of her “new pink leg,” describing the prosthetic blade that was customized for her.

The reaction of Anu’s friends and classmates is a welcome response in lieu of the relentless bullying that children today often experience—especially those with various handicaps.

Our hearts are full, knowing that Anu’s “new pink leg” has given her all the power and confidence to dance, run and play with her friends around the schoolyard.

Share this story with someone you love and put a smile on their face today!
