14-Year-old Brings Home a Fake Baby for School Assignment—Her Mom’s Reaction Is Winning the Internet

Lawren told her daughter she wouldn’t help her. “Yeah, no,” the mom posted to Facebook.

Before you get the idea that this mom was heartless, however. One thing you must understand is that this mom is not only the mother of four kids, but had a real 3-week-old baby at the time who she was really feeding and changing and caring for after actually giving birth to it.

In her post, the mother said, “Meet Olivia with William. Olivia is 14 years old and will be turning 15 in May. She is the oldest of four children. I have a 6-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and a new baby girl who is just 3 weeks old.”

Lawren’s 14-year-old daughter was getting a better idea of what her mother’s experience is like. For example, the mother explained that Olivia was interrupted three times during dinner, having to heat up her plate over and over because of the baby’s needs.

According to the mom, Olivia was afraid the baby would start crying in the shower. “She loaded William up in his car seat and took him in the bathroom with her. She finished up rather quickly and explained that she decided to take a bath instead.”

Apparently, Olivia couldn’t wash her hair because she thought her fake baby would have needs that she would miss.

The mom pointed out that even though Olivia is the oldest of her 3 other siblings, she was not prepared to care for the baby.

“I believe this assignment should be mandatory for both boys and girls in high school,” said the mom.

Facebook users who saw the post agreed with Lawren, saying things like, “The best contraceptive possible,” and “this should be REQUIRED for ALL High School students.”

One person pointed out how difficult it would have been had the doll been brought home right before the COVID-19 shutdown.

Another parent whose high school child also had a similar assignment said, “My favorite memory is when we went to mass with it. The baby was quiet until we were getting ready for communion.”

“It started crying, and she had to take the baby to the cry room,” the Facebook user said. “When we found her after mass, she was furious. ‘People were staring at me. I had to leave church! That’s just wrong!’ Gee, I wouldn’t know what that’s like.”

One thing is for sure, the assignment could give kids an understanding of what their parents have done to care for them.
