Cardinals Pitcher Adam Wainwright Asks Fans to Read Through the Bible in a Year With Him

Adam Wainwright, a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, has encouraged fans to join him in his faith journey by reading through the Bible in a year.

The MLB star extended the invitation on Twitter on Thursday, asking interested followers to join his other Twitter account.

“Hey everybody. This won’t be for everyone, but it’s an important part of my life,” Wainwright tweeted. “Most of y’all probably just want to talk baseball, etc. BUT, if you want to read through the Bible with me in one year you can join my other twitter account… @walkingwwaino We’ll start Jan 12.”

The 38-year-old pitcher, affectionately referred to as ‘Waino,’ began his relationship with Jesus in 2002 after attending a conference as a young pitcher.

“In 2002, I decided to go to a conference in Dallas, Texas,” Wainwright told the Sports Spectrum Podcast in 2017. “‘I really don’t want to be here, but I’m going to listen and we’ll see what happens.’ I just know that God had me there for a reason and I was meant to be there. Everything in my life led to that conference.”

“During the night sermon, the pastor was preaching on the relationship that was meant to be with Jesus,” he continued. “And for whatever reason, God finally opened my ears and I bought in on the spot. As I was listening to him talk, it sunk in and it punched me right in the face, and it punched me so hard that I had to look around and make sure that I wasn’t talking to Jesus himself.”

Ever since, Wainwright has enjoyed sharing his faith and pouring into others in whatever way he can.

“Follower of Jesus. Husband to my best friend. Dad to some rascal headed ninnymuggins’. Studying God’s Word in community,” his bio for the new Twitter account reads.

“Hey guys, I am so glad y’all joined this group,” Wainwright tweeted to the @walkingwwaino account’s new followers. “This is a cool opportunity for me to walk through God’s Word in community with you. It’s my prayer that this would be a blessing and a daily encouragement to you all. I can’t wait to start on January 12th!”

Kudos to this MLB veteran for using his platform to bring praise to the King and encourage others in their walk with God. If you’d like to be a part of Wainwright’s new group, join here today!
