“I Don’t Love My Kids the Same”

As parents, it can be quite the struggle to wrap your mind around loving your second child as much as you love the first, and the one after that… and so on and so forth.

When your heart is already bursting with love for your first bundle of joy, it’s hard to imagine having the room in your heart for one more — to love them the same, with equal intensity, passion, and devotion.

What if you come up short? What if one child gets cheated out of the love and affection he/she deserves because you simply don’t have enough? What if, Mr. Grinch style, your heart is simply two sizes too small?

These were precisely the worries plaguing the mind and “stealing the peace” of Casey Huff as she awaited the arrival of her second son. And after his birth, Casey did, in fact, discover that she did NOT love her kids the same — but it wasn’t in the way she anticipated.

In an eye-opening Facebook post, the Etched in Home blogger explains how loving her children uniquely, rather than equally, became the biggest unexpected blessing to her mother’s heart.

Read Casey’s beautiful post in full below, and be sure to SHARE it with the mamas in your life today:

“I don’t love my kids the same.

This worry-turned-fact is something that kept me awake when I was pregnant with my second son; stealing the peace of the night as I wondered how in the world I could make enough room in my already bursting heart for another.

It was the unsettled feeling that I cried over on the way to the hospital after dropping our oldest boy off. The next time we saw him he would be a big brother, and I wondered how I could ever love the new baby with the same overwhelming love I felt for him.

As with so many other things– if only I had known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have wasted all of that worry.
