Nearing the 1-Year Anniversary of the Death of Mark Wahlberg’s Mom, Mark and His Siblings Credit Her for Their Faith

Donnie Wahlberg posted a tribute to his mother. “I’m so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by and set on my life’s path by, such an amazing woman,” he said in his post. “My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am.”

The tribute shows footage of Mark Wahlberg’s mom with her many children and at various events. The viral post has nearly a million views and 250,000 likes.

Coming into a couple months of anniversaries, related to Mark Wahlberg’s mom, he and his siblings will have more opportunities to honor and remember her, as the anniversary of her death, her birthday, and Mother’s Day approach. And given the past social media posts Alma Wahlberg’s children have put out there, we’re likely to see some more from them in the future.

Here is just a fraction of some of the posts Mark Wahlberg has shared about his mother.

On April 18, 2021, he posted a photo of his mother, saying “My angel. Rest in peace.”

In 2016, he posted a Mother’s Day message, first to his mother and then to his wife and other mothers in his life an around the world.

“I want to wish my mother—Happy Mother’s Day, mama!” he said.

On May 6, 2021, Mark Wahlberg’s mom would have turned 79 years old. Mark posted a message to her in heaven.

Mark Wahlberg’s Mom’s Faith

According to Mark, Alma Wahlberg considered success to have to do more with faith and family.

After Alma Wahlberg’s death, Mark explained, “What made her most proud was us really kind of turning our lives around and becoming really productive people and the family-oriented people that we are.”

The Wahlberg family had it tough in their earlier years. As a youth, Mark had frequently gotten into trouble, and he had even robbed a convenience store and ended up in jail. But his mother pointed him toward repentance and faith, and it was her support that helped him change the trajectory of his life.

“I had to make the choice personally, and then I had to focus on my faith. And my faith has really allowed me to overcome a lot of things,” Mark explained.

Today, as a self-proclaimed Christian, Mark continues to seek to live out his faith, and he thinks of the ways his mother taught him in this area, as well.

As he looks back at his relationship with her, he continues to take comfort in where things were left in her passing. “She was most proud of the husband and the dad that I was.” He explains, “I mean, she always appreciated the successes and the things that I was able to do professionally, but the personal growth really meant something to her.”

Thankfully, the Wahlberg siblings aren’t left without the matriarch—Mark Wahlberg’s mom.

“Now I have my sister who has really been an enormous support system for our entire family,” Mark shared. “We’re now communicating much more than we were because everybody obviously was off doing their own thing and they’d be in their own lives. And now we’re constantly doing a multi-person FaceTime.”
