WATCH: Sadie Robertson Huff Discusses Purity—And How the Church Got It Wrong

God’s Design for Sex

Based on Genesis 1:27-28, Sadie showed that God created male and female in his image, and that he wanted them to multiply. God came up with the idea of sex. And, then in verse 31, he said that it was very good.

Sadie laughed and shared, “God’s first command was to go have sex. Like he was like, ‘Be fruitful and multiply fill the earth.’ … I think a lot of people think sex is worldly, dirty, or bad right. But, no, sex was actually designed to be really really good.”

Genesis 2:24-25 says that “a man leaves his father and mother” and “the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.”

“Sex is not meant to be shameful. It’s not meant to [make you] feel guilty or something that needs to be hidden. In the context of marriage, you can be naked and feel no shame,” Sadie said.

Korie referred to Ephesians 5:31, mentioning how Paul quoted Genesis and said a married couple becomes one flesh. This relationship also illustrates Christ’s relationship with the church.

“No wonder the evil one wants to make sex feel dirty or wrong or shameful or perverted,” Korie said. “Because he’s going directly after something and that God set up to also illustrate what oneness in Christ looks like.”

Korie went on to describe the opposite view within the world: “The enemy does tell us… that sex means nothing—that it’s just like something you can do and forget about the next day. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t mean anything, and I think, deep down, we all know that’s not true. God does not give you a rule or a command to ruin your life. He gives you commands to give you the fullness of life.”

Both Sadie and Korie affirmed that if you’ve experienced sexual abuse or sexual sin, God can—and wants to—redeem. Korie further shared that she knew people who have lived through hard stories and abuse in their past, yet, with God’s work, they’re now living in pure and healthy relationships.
