‘The Chosen’: A Binge-Worthy TV Series to Watch With The Whole Family

We all know the struggle: you sit down after a long day of child rearing, adulting, and the 9-5 grind, only to spend the precious hour before bed scrolling through possible TV show options, just to wind up watching Friends for the umpteenth time.

Well look no further folks, because The Chosen is the binge-worthy television series you didn’t know you were missing, and it’s perfect for the whole family!

A friend of ours recommended The Chosen while we were all at home during 2020. And if I’m being honest, he didn’t just recommend it, he RAVED about it.

It’s the first ever multi-season show about the life and Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it’s FREE to stream on any device through The Chosen app, and now on Amazon Prime Video.

The series, released by VidAngel, has garnered attention in Christian circles and secular ones, as it became the No. 1 crowdfunded media project in history, with over 16,000 investors giving $10 million in 2019 to see the project come to fruition.

This isn’t your average “Jesus Project.” The Chosen has earned a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and 9.8 stars on IMDB. In January 2020, The Chosen joined acclaimed productions like Netflix’s The Crown and Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, earning two Movieguide Award nominations. Actor Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus in the series, took home the Grace Award for a TV Performance. In 2022, the show took home a Dove Award for “Inspirational Film of the Year.”

The show has become a worldwide phenomenon, garnering more than 413 million views after just two seasons. All episodes of The Chosen: Season 3 are also now available, with experts suggesting the viewership will soar past that half-billion mark. The final two episodes of Season 3 were premiered as one production in theaters on February 2nd and 3rd, grossing nearly $14.7 worldwide in its run.

“Playing the role of Jesus Christ is the preeminent honor, not only of my career, but of my life,” Roumie said. “With this series, we’re afforded the opportunity to take our time with the greatest story ever told…and savor it.”

In a recent interview with Fox News, Roumie emphasized that The Chosen is not a religious project for religious people. Like any binge-worthy show it’s simply filmmakers, storytellers, and actors who are determined to tell a good story. (Or in this case, the greatest story ever told).

“This should be watched for anybody that is fans of historical dramas, anybody that’s a fan of well-researched historical productions,” Roumie said. “And if you like period pieces, if you like, well-made shows, well-written shows, this is going to appeal to so many people. And I think that they can get past the idea of like, ‘Oh, it’s a faith show and it’s not for me.’ You don’t have to [believe in God]. There’s no prerequisite. This is going to appeal to people beyond the faith spectrum. And it has.”

With three full seasons available now, The Chosen is binge-worthy and a must-see for every member of the family. Filming of The Chosen: Season 4 began in March, with the season slated to be released in 2024.

Familiar Gospel characters like Mary Magdalene, Peter, and Matthew are given full lives and exciting contexts that balance faithful, biblical interpretation with a fresh lens of imagination.

The Chosen is the first media project in history to ever be released globally on it’s own app, which has been downloaded and streamed in over 180 countries worldwide.

In 2020, VidAngel CEO, Neal Harmon, spoke to the overwhelming success of the project. “Two years ago, we embarked on a journey to create the first multi-season series about Jesus and broke the all-time crowdfunding record for a media project,” Harmon explained. “Seeing the investor support, the completed season one and reactions to the series from around the globe, we’ve come to realize this is the start of something very, very special.”

Filmmaker Dallas Jenkins hopes viewers will “pay it forward,” by donating so that others around the world can experience the series, which has so far been translated into 70 languages.

In December of 2022, The Chosen partnered with Colorado Springs non-profit, Come and See Foundation, which will raise money to produce future seasons of the show. Since Come and See Foundation is a charity with 501 (c) (3) status, contributions made by American citizens and residents are tax deductible in the United States.

The creators hope “to make The Chosen bigger than the Game of Thrones billion-view record” and “the most-watched global series in history.” They’re on their way.

“I Was Really Struggling and Felt Really Broken”—Chris Pratt on Finding God and Meeting Wife Katherine Schwarzenegger at Church

Chris Pratt is opening up this week about his faith in God, and how he was saved during a really difficult time in his life.

Speaking with Drew Barrymore on her talkshow Tuesday, the  Super Mario Bros. Movie voice actor revealed that he was “really struggling and felt really broken” just before meeting his now wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger.

“There was a moment in my life that I was really struggling and felt really broken,” the 43-year-old said.

“For me, [it was] my own journey finding a higher power and leaning on that and feeling like, ‘Please save me,’ and feeling saved. And then shortly later, [I met] the woman of my dreams.”

Pratt went on to talk about meeting Schwarzenegger for the first time, at church of all places.

“I was in the front row of church – which is like, you kind of don’t want to be like, ‘Woah, who’s that?’ at church. You know what I mean?” Pratt joked. “But I was sneaking some glances and wondering, ‘Who is that? Anyway, what am I doing? Come on, I’m broken, help me. But who’s that?’”

Everything “Made Sense”

Pratt says although the two didn’t begin dating right away, everything “just made sense,” when they finally did begin seeing each other shortly after.

“You know when you’re doing a puzzle, and there’s a piece, and you’re like, ‘I’m certain that’s the piece’ and then you jam it, and it looks like it should be the piece [but then] you’re like like, ‘Oh it’s that one,’ ” he explained of connecting with Schwarzenegger. “It just fits together. You’re like, ‘Oh, it fits because it was the piece that was made to fit there.’ It felt like that.”

The couple married in 2019, just one year after meeting, and now share two daughters. Pratt believes it was all part of God’s plan.

“God has a fast-forward button, you know. When it’s right — boom! — you’re hit. You fall in love, you get married. Now we have two beautiful daughters to add to my family, and it feels really great.”

Pratt was formerly married to actress Anna Ferris, with whom he shares 10-year-old son, Jack. The two divorced in 2018.

“It’s all about timing,” Pratt said. “There’s a perfect plan out there for you. And I think you have to have faith. The minute you have faith, it falls into place.”

7th Grader Argues “The Case for Christianity”—Blows the Doors Off Jesus Skeptics

3

This is a special guest post by Annie Olson, a 7th grader who wrote this as her final paper in a rhetoric class. It is reprinted here with the permission of Annie and her parents, and it’s an excellent example of what young people can accomplish when we elevate our expectations. Don’t underestimate the ability of your kids to understand the evidence and make the case, regardless of their age. You never know, they just might write something like this:

We believe in God the Father. We believe in Jesus Christ. We believe in the Holy Spirit and that He’s given us new life. We believe in the crucifixion. We believe that He conquered death. We believe in the resurrection and that He’s coming back again. We believe. So, why do we believe?  Should we believe?  Is the New Testament even reliable?

The Case for Christianity

Most people recognize that the New Testament is used by Christians as a historical account and the basis of their faith.  Some people believe that the New Testament accounts are reliable.  Conversely, others do not believe that the New Testament accounts are reliable.  As described by J. Warner Wallace, author of Cold-Case Christianity, there are strategic methods of investigation used to determine whether the facts of a case are reliable.  For the purpose of this paper, the case or the issue is whether or not the New Testament accounts are reliable.  According to these methods, the New Testament accounts are reliable for three reasons: the writers lived early enough in the First Century to be true eyewitnesses of the events described; the testimonies given were verified by outside sources and evidence and were not corrupted over time; and the motives possessed by the authors were not biased.

The first piece of evidence

The first piece of evidence supporting that the New Testament accounts are reliable is that the writers lived early enough in the First Century to be true eyewitnesses of the events described.  Known historical events were not depicted in the writings because they had not yet happened.  For example, the siege of Jerusalem in AD 67-70 and the destruction of the Temple in AD 70 were not mentioned in the New Testament because they had not occurred.  The deaths of Jesus’ early followers were also not recorded because they were still living.  For instance, the deaths of James, Peter, and Paul were not until AD 61-65.  Paul’s letters, written between AD 53-57, directly referenced the Gospels, which means they had already been written.  He referenced Mark’s gospel, which was written in AD 45-50 and Luke’s gospel, which was written in AD 50-53.  All this evidence supports that the New Testament accounts were written close to the time and events that they describe.  Substantial evidence that the authors lived during the time of Christ makes them powerful eyewitnesses.

The second piece of evidence

Secondly, the testimonies given in the New Testament were verified by outside sources and evidence and were not corrupted over time.  Archaeological findings and writings from early, external, non-Christians gave detailed descriptions of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  Some of these non-Christian historians included Josephus, Thallus, Tacitus, Mara Bar-Serapion, and Phlegon.  It is powerful to note that even non-followers and those who didn’t necessarily believe that Jesus was the Son of God provided documentation that Jesus lived in Judea, was a virtuous man, had wondrous powers, predicted the future, was the wise “King of the Jews”, was accused by Jewish leaders, and crucified by Pilate during the reign of Tiberius Caesar.  They also described darkness and an earthquake that covered the land at the time of the crucifixion.  Furthermore, these same non-believers stated that Jesus reportedly rose after death, was believed to be the Messiah, and was called the “Christ”.  Supporting that the New Testament accounts were not corrupted over time, the students of the original apostles consistently echoed the same message even though they were spread out geographically.  Moreover, true to the Jewish tradition, scribes were known for meticulously copying the Scriptures.  For example, the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in caves in 1947.  There were fragments of almost every book of the Old Testament and a complete copy of Isaiah in these scrolls.  When the scroll of Isaiah was compared [to] the book that we now have, 95 [percent] was word-for-word and the other 5 [percent] were simply some spelling differences and sometimes the presence of the word “and”.  None of these differences changed the meaning of the Old Testament Scriptures at all.  There is no reason to believe that the writers of the New Testament would not use these same methods for copying their work and passing it down to their students.  It is clear that the New Testament accounts were verified by outside sources and were not corrupted over time.

The third piece of evidence

Finally, the motives possessed by the authors of the New Testament accounts were not biased.  We are all motivated to the things we do, whether that be for good or for evil.   Some of the prime motivations for anyone to take action include: financial greed, [the] pursuit of power, and self-protection.  The apostles were not driven by financial greed, as evidenced by the fact that they abandoned all of their earthly possessions to follow Jesus in the hope of finding the treasures of Heaven instead.  The authors of the New Testament were also not driven by the pursuit of power.  Indeed, their status in the Jewish community was crushed considerably, leaving them outcasts according to Jewish elite, like the Pharisees.  Similarly, there is no evidence to support that the writers were concerned with self-preservation.  In fact, none of the apostles recanted their testimony, even to save their lives.  The evidence supports that the motives of the New Testament writers were pure.

Despite these facts, the opposing side will try to convince you that the New Testament accounts are not reliable.  They try to prove this by suggesting that the Gospels were written late, meaning they were not written when the true eyewitness [was] alive.  Therefore, they claim that they are a lie, saying that the Gospels were penned in the Second or Third Centuries.  Furthermore, skeptics proclaim that the Gospels were written much closer to the establishment of Christianity in the Roman Empire than to the life of Jesus.

These suggested explanations are inadequate because there is substantial evidence that the historical events described in the New Testament all happened in the First Century and were actually written about by true eyewitnesses in that same time period.

Others may deny the reliability of the New Testament accounts, saying that because Mark’s account seemed to be written in a hurry, it is not correct.  Because the facts are brief and jumbled, some may think they cannot be trusted.  There could also be concerns that Mark’s sense of urgency in his writing could have led to inaccuracy of the facts.

This proof against the reliability of the New Testament accounts is inadequate because it is plausible that Mark put together the facts quickly because he wanted to world to know about the life of Jesus before it was too late.  For all he knew, Jesus would return before there would be any need for an ordered biography of sorts.  Mark wrote almost word-for-word what his teacher, Peter, who had been a direct eyewitness, said.  Mark was very careful and unlikely to have written any false accounts.  The accuracy was simply more important to Mark than an ordered description.

The opposing side alleges to have accurate and reliable evidence to disprove the reliability of the New Testament; however, there are clear ways to refute their claims.

The New Testament accounts are reliable.  We know this because the writers lived early enough in the First Century to be true eyewitnesses of the events described.  The testimonies given were also verified by outside sources and evidence and were not corrupted over time.  Finally, the motives possessed by the authors were not biased.

The reliability of the New Testament accounts matters to Christians.  As stated by J. Warner Wallace, “While we are often willing to spend time reading the Bible, praying, or participating in church programs and services, few of us recognize the importance of becoming good Christian case makers.”  Now that we are able to make a case, based on evidence, to strongly support the New Testament’s reliability, we need to use this knowledge to defend our faith.

At 13, Annie is already well equipped to defend the truth. When I got her letter, I thought, “This is why I wrote Cold-Case Christianity, and this is why I’m so glad we had the opportunity to write Cold-Case Christianity for Kids.” Let’s encourage our young people to raise the bar and make the case for Christ.

Dad Uncovers Sex-Trafficking Scheme in Daughter’s Instagram Account, Posts Viral Warning to Parents

When you hear the words “human trafficking” what comes to mind? Do you understand how terrible it is yet think “that’s not really impacting me personally”? Instagram…

Maybe it is and you don’t know it because we are not talking about it enough.

What I am about to tell you is very personal and dear to my heart, many tears have been shed and countless months of detective work to come to the story I am about to tell you.

A year ago, Michigan was #2 in the nation for human trafficking based on phone calls received by the human trafficking hotline. Today it’s still in the top 10, however falling lower to states like California and Nevada due to the volume of vacationers that visit those states.

It all started about 5 years ago with a 15-year-old boy named Bruce on Instagram. Bruce was a young attractive Hispanic boy, seemingly normal in every way. Little did he know he was the first step in an elaborate human trafficking ring. Like many of our children today they really do not understand how the social media outlets spread the entire world and with that come serious threats if not monitored.

Human Trafficking Instagram Accounts

Bruce was a “friend” to quite a few of the girls in my daughter’s circle of friends and they would chat daily. Bruce also had many friends that were being introduced to the circle and they all began to chat through Instagram and Kik. Shortly after their introduction, I began to see a change in my daughter, she was becoming secretive and sneaky, and being that I fully understand how far the internet reaches and quickly things can get out of control on the internet I checked up on my daughter on a regular basis. I would say bi-weekly I would grab her tablet after she went to sleep and begin to dig into her messages, her pictures, and to see if things looked appropriate.

I noticed an unusual time gap in some messages and images and truly didn’t think anything of it until about 2 weeks later. I had a funny feeling one night and grabbed her tablet to do what I thought would be just another normal check… What I found to this day haunts my mind and makes my heart sink.

It began with a picture, a questionably inappropriate one for a girl her age, and the sexy pose set my red flag on fire. So my digging turned into a manhunt checking EVERYTHING in all her accounts.

You see Bruce was a real boy, totally naïve to the “friends” he had in his circle. As I finished my digging into her accounts all I was left with were tears in my eyes and a burning fire in my heart to destroy every boy on her Instagram account and it was just the beginning.

I began to use the power of Google to do some searching and looking up secondary accounts of some of the friends in this circle (not something children are willing to do) once I saw that 4 of the “friends” in the circle were clearly adult men, my heartbreak turned to anger and rage. After about 2 days of almost endless scouring the internet for info on these MEN, I came to the conclusion that I needed to take action with the Police. We were quickly met by the detective of the Cyber Task Force of Portage Police department and all our technology was requested.  After 7 months they called us in to report the most terrifying words I have ever heard, “Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins, can you and your family please come to the Police station as soon as possible.” NOT something you ever want to hear.

After we arrived we entered a small conference room in the back of the Portage Police station and began to listen as he explained how my digging may have saved my daughter from abduction.

Bruce was like I said, a normal 15-year-old boy, what I didn’t know was the friends that were men acting as “friends” have set Bruce out as a scout… He was the first safe face that our children see; he unknowingly was luring young girls into his circle as prey for the men to pick and choose from. The circle of Bruce’s friend list reached the globe and his over 2k followers were nothing more than a smorgasbord of young unaware children these men were chatting with. OUR CHILDREN…

This is not someone else’s problem, this is right here, right now and real as the tears I shed for the innocence that was stolen from my daughter. My beautiful girl was prey for these monsters, she was quickly approaching a meetup (in her words) and I fear that I may have never seen my daughter again.

I hope this triggers fear in the hearts of every one of you. Dig in your children’s accounts, ask them questions, and tell them not to have “friends” that they don’t actually know. I had no idea just how close it came to never seeing my daughter again, it’s worth the little upset hurt feelings of your child to keep them safe. If you do not know or understand what to look for or how, ASK someone that does that you trust with the life of your child.

This picture of my daughters may have been the last picture I had with both of them together. This was taken around the time Hayley met Bruce…

How is Instagram being used for human trafficking?

Here are some typical patterns and procedures on social media:

  • The trafficker builds a relationship with a potential victim through social media.
  • Some traffickers use fake profiles. They may also impersonate or use a “bottom girl” to make contact. (“Bottom girl” is a sex trafficker slang term for a victim that is still under the trafficker’s control, but has earned a “higher ranking” among other victims. She may be the trafficker’s “right hand” help for controlling and/or recruiting the other victims.)
  • Many traffickers use their own personal social media profiles for communication.
  • Some sex traffickers use fake job offers for modeling, singing, or other potentially legitimate business opportunities to attract victims.
  • The recruitment may begin with the trafficker commenting on potential victims’ photos and sending direct messages (DMs). This is to build rapport, intimacy and trust with the victim.
  • “Boyfriending” may be used – a manipulative tactic that involves extreme flattery, fake romantic interests, promises of financial gain, gifts, and even providing help with family issues.
  • The online relationship will usually end with the trafficker purchasing travel tickets or covering transportation costs in order to meet with the victim face-to-face.

To request help or report suspected human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Or text HELP to BeFree (233733).

“I Was Raped 43,200 Times”: Teen Tricked by Boyfriend into Sex Trafficking Ring Speaks Out

“She Handled Motherhood Beautifully”—Then She Took Her Own Life. The Real Face of Postpartum Depression.

0

For those who knew Allison Goldstein, there was no doubt that she had a wonderful life. She had just given birth to her first daughter, Ainslee, and she had a beautiful marriage that was thriving despite the constant life changes that come with having a spouse in the military.

“She was incredibly witty and had an amazing ability to make everyone around her feel welcome, included, and loved,” her best friend Julie Waterfield WRITES. “I knew we would be lifelong friends.”

Julie says Allison was more than a friend, but also a role model, a confidant and a “beautiful ray of sunshine.” Their friendship meant the world to her.

I wanted to be just like her. She was adorable, healthy, smart, funny, loyal, supportive, and oh so sweet. Every time she greeted me with my giant belly, she said, “You look beautiful!” Of course I didn’t think so when I looked in the mirror, but she made me feel so good. Allison was a great friend. She handled pregnancy and motherhood beautifully…on the outside.”

YouTube

But Allison was suffering in silence—being destroyed from the inside-out by the lies and misery of postpartum depression. It’s the silent killer that led Allison to write a several-page long goodbye email before checking her four-month-old daughter into day care, and driving herself to an abandoned dirt road where she took her own life.

“My beautiful would-be life-long friend lost her hidden battle with Postpartum depression on June 28th, 2016. She left behind a loving husband, a precious 4.5 month-old baby girl, and countless family and friends who adored her.”

In her email, Allison apologized to her loved ones saying, “I’m so sorry that I didn’t know how to describe this pain and seek help.”

YouTube

There were no red flags, no warning signs, no concerning behaviors or “depressed” moods. There was no knowing what Allison was enduring. Which is exactly why it’s important that we share her story.

Julie wants others to hear Allison’s story to know that they are not alone, and they don’t have to suffer. Motherhood looks different for everyone. But knowing how to navigate tough conversations could spare the life of a beautiful mother who is secretly being destroyed by her own thoughts and mind.

“Not every new mother’s journey is happy and bright. Sometimes it is dark, lonely, scary, miserable, and uncertain. And the guilt! The guilt that we self-impose and that society imposes on us is overwhelming. If our journey as a mother isn’t daisies and butterflies, we feel alienated and ashamed. There is a rainbow at the end of the PPD storm that is raging for these struggling mamas. Help is out there in many forms if we just seek it: loving friends, supportive husbands, counselors, support groups, and medication.”

Allison’s father says, “If this can happen to Allison, it can happen to anybody.”

According to statistics, suicide is the leading cause of death in women the first year after having a baby. The statistic is staggering, but we have the power to change it.

It can be as simple as asking a new mom, “Are you okay?” or “How are you doing with all of these changes?”

But don’t stop there.

Like any mental illness, there tends to be a completely unnecessary stigma associated with postpartum depression. One of the best things you can do is talk about PPD and de-stigmatize any shame that might surround the diagnosis.

There are far too many amazing things ahead for mamas who find themselves stuck in the death-grip of PPD. Julie wants Allison’s story to be shared with everyone, in hopes that it may encourage another new mama to seek help.

If you are a new mom or know a new mom who might be feeling even a tad bit blue, please reach out! Postpartum Progress is an excellent place to start.

To the mamas facing the battle of PPD: You are NOT alone, and this world is a BETTER place with you in it.

Wife Forces Husband to Sleep on Couch, Finds Him Dead in the Morning: “Life Is Too Short to Go to Bed Angry”

One of the most popular pieces of advice most couples give to newlyweds is: “Never go to bed angry.”

Easier said than done, I’m afraid. But one wife is urging other couples to take this seemingly generic advice seriously after suddenly losing her husband in his sleep.

Ashley Murrell got into a heated argument with her husband, Mikey, after he came home from a 16-hour shift at work.

YouTube

It started when the 33-year-old told her husband she was concerned he was stretching himself too thin and running himself into the ground.

“He was so exhausted all the time and he was running himself into the ground and his health was going downhill fast.”

Granted, the feud was rooted in Ashley’s desire to look out for her husband’s best interest, but the disagreement was not resolved before the couple went to sleep.

“When he came home that night he was a mess, I have never seen him so exhausted. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that and I got angry. I was sick of it.”

Ashley suggested Mikey sleep on the sofa.

“I had a go at him and told him to sleep on the sofa which was stupid because I really just wanted him around more.”

“Never go to bed angry,” took on a whole new meaning that night.

When she woke the next morning, Ashley’s worst nightmare became a reality. On the couch she found Mikey, dead where he’d laid down to sleep.

“Mikey was so caring,” the widow says of her husband. “If he walked into a room and saw someone unhappy he would be the first person there trying to cheer them up.”

Ashley later found out that her husband had been working the extra hours as a carpet cleaner to save money for their anniversary on July 3. He was planning a trip for the two of them to Prague.

“He would work 16-hour shifts, seven days a week just so he could save up enough to take us all to Disney every year. He was so worn out but he would do anything just to see us smile.”

YouTube

Ashley says she’d give anything to change the course of that night. Her final words to Mikey will forever be etched in her mind.

“I felt so guilty. I was so angry with myself for making him sleep on the sofa. I still find it so hard to think that my last words to him were out of anger.”

YouTube

Now, the grieving mother of three wants other couples to know the weight behind “never going to bed angry.”

“Losing Mikey has changed my entire perspective on life. Life is too short to go to bed angry and not to spend every moment you can with your family.”

My heart breaks for Ashley and her family. I pray that her experience would be a stronger reminder to each of us today to resolve conflicts with our loved ones before the night ends…for we never know what morning will hold.

“Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun set upon your anger.” —Ephesians 4:26

10-Yr-Old Prodigy Is Out to Prove Atheist Stephen Hawking Wrong: “God Does Exist”

William Maillis is not your typical 10-year-old.

At an age when most kids are focused on beating the next level in a video game, or working toward actually hitting the ball in their baseball game on Saturday, William is consumed with becoming an astrophysicist.

Most kids dream of becoming a firefighter, a doctor, maybe an astronaut or a teacher, but William isn’t just dreaming of becoming an astrophysicist, he’s already becoming one.

The boy from Pennsylvania, graduated high school in May of 2016, at the age of 9. He graduated from St Petersburg College in 2018 at the age of 11.

According to his father, Peter Maillis, William began speaking in full sentences at just seven months old. He was doing addition at 21 months, and multiplication by the age of 2—a time when he was also reading children’s books, and writing his own nine-page book, “Happy Cat.” At four years old, he was learning algebra, sign language and how to read Greek, and when he was five, he read an entire 209-page geometry textbook in one night, and woke up solving circumference problems the next morning.

This kid is literally a GENIUS, and has been declared one by Ohio State University psychologist, Joanne Ruthsatz.

William’s desire to become an astrophysicist is rooted in his strong faith beliefs. He disagrees with some of Einstein and Hawking’s theories on black holes, and has his own ideas to prove about the existence of the universe.

The son of a Greek Orthodox Priest, William wants to prove that an outside force is the only thing capable of creating the universe, which means that “God does exist.”

Hawking, however, had a much different assertion. “Before we understood science, it was natural to believe that God created the universe, but now science offers a more convincing explanation,” said the renowned physicist. “What I meant by ‘we would know the mind of God’ is we would know everything that God would know if there was a God, but there isn’t. I’m an atheist.”

William’s parents say they have never pushed him toward his studies or this God-proving endeavor, but rather that he’s a pretty “normal” 10-year-old.

“We’re normal people,” Peter explained. “And he’s a normal kid. You can’t distinguish him from other 10-year-olds. He likes sports, television shows, the computer and video games like everyone else.”

Well I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty pumped to see this “normal,” God-fearing boy unravel the theory of one of the most prolific scientific minds of all time—for as stated by the great scientist Matthew Maury, “The Bible is true and science is true, and therefore each, if truly read, but proves the truth of the other.”

Woman Tells Pastor “I Won’t Be Going to Your Church Anymore”—His Response Has the Internet Applauding

There’s no better way to make a point than the use of an analogy. You know, when someone explains something using different examples to express similarities.

And there’s no one who uses analogies better than a church pastor.

Pastor Andy Harris of The Church of the Cross in Haughton, Louisiana, shared a story on his Facebook page about a woman who made the decision to leave her church after she was burned by some others in the congregation — sound familiar?

It’s not stated whether or not Pastor Andy’s story was a real-life example, but its reliability and the analogy that it paints is enough to sell us on its message either way. His viral post has now been shared over 231,000 times.

As the story goes, a woman approached her pastor to inform him that she’d no longer be attending his church.

Perplexed by her decision, the pastor pressed her as to why.

“Ah! I saw a woman gossiping about another member; a man that is a hypocrite; the worship team living wrong; people looking at their phone during service; among so many other things wrong in your church,” she replied.

The pastor was sad to hear her reasoning, but not surprised, as he’s heard it all before. That’s why he let her go. But not before she did one final thing for him.

“But before you go, do me a favor: Take a full glass of water and walk around the church three times without spilling a drop on the ground. Afterward, leave the church if you desire.”

An odd request to say the least, but the woman knew it would be a piece of cake.

She followed his instructions, walked three times around the church with her full glass of water, and returned to him — task completed.

The pastor prompted her with just one more thing before she left:

“Before you leave I want to ask you one more question. When you were walking around the church, did you see anyone gossiping?”

She told him, “no.”

Then he asked if she’d spotted any hypocrites, or come across anyone on their phones.

Again the woman replied, “no.”

Then the pastor offered up this perspective-shattering, thought-provoking analogy that would leave even some nonbelievers shouting “amen.”

“You were focused on the glass, to make sure you didn’t stumble and spill any water. It’s the same with our life. When we keep our eyes on Jesus, we don’t have time to see the mistakes of others. We will reach out a helping hand to them and concentrate on our own walk with the Lord.”

And that my friends, is worthy of a mic-drop.

He Lived 16 Years on Feeding Tubes—Until God Spoke and a Miracle Happened

Christopher Gunderson spent the first 16 years of his life unable to eat and in desperate need of medical intervention for survival.

But Gunderson, born with chronic pseudo-obstruction syndrome, an ailment in which the gastrointestinal tracts can’t appropriately absorb food, experienced a miracle that changed everything.

“I was born … basically, where my stomach was completely paralyzed,” he told CBN News. “They call it complete gastroparesis, and it wouldn’t pump anything from my stomach to my small intestine.”

This meant Gunderson, whose story is briefly told in CBN’s new documentary “Investigating the Supernatural: Miracles,” would vomit whenever he ate, making nourishment near-impossible.

“It took my parents and the doctors several studies and diagnostic tests to figure out that that was truly the case that I had complete gastroparesis,” he said.

Doctors were forced to insert two tubes into his body. One, which went into his stomach, decompressed everything he swallowed to try and help process it through.

Another tube, connected to Gunderson’s small intestine, allowed him to get nutrition from formula — something he relied on for nutrients throughout the first 16 years of his life. As he got older and more active, the situation became tougher to navigate.

“I would have bile actually back up into my stomach and cause severe heartburn on a daily basis,” Gunderson said. “I’d have to constantly drain that out throughout the night and throughout the day.”

Eventually, doctors came to fear what might happen due to the lack of nourishment and complications.

“My parents were told multiple times that the doctors didn’t know how long I was going to live for,” Gunderson said, noting he went septic in the past and had infections. “They never exposed that to me, which I’m grateful for.”

Gunderson was raised in a Christian household but was skeptical that miracles are still unfolding. Despite that belief, he and his family found themselves at a 2011 event featuring Bruce Van Natta, a ministry leader whose own miracle healing story of being crushed by a truck and surviving has led to speeches, addresses, and books.

“My mom was hearing his testimony, and during the whole time that Bruce was talking my mom was hearing God tell her to go talk to him,” Gunderson said. “He was saying a lot of familiar medical terminology that most people wouldn’t really know because of what Bruce had gone through and what I’ve gone through.”

His mom ended up approaching Van Natta. While Gunderson wasn’t there at the time, she asked Van Natta if he would pray for her son. Van Natta agreed and told the mother to bring her son the next day to hear him speak — so they did.

Little did the family know, but something big was on the horizon.

“When we were there at that church the next day I had this pulsating sensation in my abdomen that I hadn’t had before,” Gunderson said. “And I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ And God said, He’s preparing me. And I haven’t really ever heard from God too much before in my spirit. I didn’t know how to … listen to his voice, listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice.”

In those moments of dialogue with God, Gunderson said he made a promise.

“During that time that I was having that pulsating sensation … I said, ‘If you heal me, I will not be quiet about it. I’ll tell anyone and everyone about this testimony, about this miracle that you did for me,’” he recalled.

After Van Natta spoke, Gunderson and his family went up to him and Van Natta put his hand on his shoulders and started to pray — and that’s when Gunderson believes a real-life miracle unfolded.

“He started to pray for me, and I started to feel that pulsating sensation that I was talking about before, but to like the 10th degree,” Gunderson said. “It feels like when you flex your abdomen, which is like over, and over, and over again.”

He continued, “And, then, about halfway through the prayer, I actually felt this lightning bolt electric shock go from my right shoulder, down through my chest, and down through my abdomen, and I felt like God jumpstarted my stomach back up with a shock.”

Gunderson described the experience as “pretty painful,” with Van Natta noting that they needed to continue praying. Once those prayers were over, Gunderson wasn’t sure what to think.

“I actually had a basketball game that night,” he said. “And, then, after the basketball game, we went out for dinner.”

But something was quite different about this dinner. Gunderson swallowed the entire meal without any abdominal pain — the first full meal he had ever eaten.

“My small intestine had never had to take anything on aside from just formula,” he said. “I wasn’t scared. I was more filled with excitement and joy, and it felt like it was very surreal.”

Over the next few weeks, Gunderson was cautious but soon came to believe that God had healed him. Soon, he weaned off of his tubes and eventually had them removed.

Doctors were shocked — and even skeptical — to hear Gunderson was off his feeding tubes and eating. Over time, though, it became apparent something had changed and doctors were elated, despite being unable to explain what unfolded.

Gunderson, though, knows a miracle took place. The experience totally changed his heart and mind.

“Before my tubes, I saw God as this higher being that’s just kind of up there and not really having a deep, meaningful relationship with us,” he said. “And, now, I actually have this inner dialect with Him.”

Christian Model Slams Argument for “Test-Driving” Before Marriage With Perfect Tweet

For the majority of modern society, the idea of cohabitation has become as sensible and necessary as test-driving a car before you buy it.

In fact, when the topic’s brought to light in social media, it’s the analogy of choice used…

“For many couples, moving in together seems like the obvious, cost-efficient next step for their relationship,” states a recent trending article by Huffington Post. “You save money on bills, have someone to help out when bulbs and vents need changing, and you get to hang out with your best bud every night.”

The piece entitled 6 Signs It’s Too Soon to Move in Together, then elaborates on the various reasons that may indicate it’s not quite time to take the next step, including testing the relationship, pressure from one side to move, or using it as a Band-Aid for other problems.

While many cheered on the seemingly practical 21st-century advice, Christian model and public speaker Leah Darrow called out the article with 6 signs of her own, inspired by a nugget of biblical wisdom.

Repeating the same 5 mic-drop-worthy words 6 times, Darrow replied:

“OR here are my 6 signs it’s too soon to move in together:

1. He won’t marry you first.
2. He won’t marry you first.
3. He won’t marry you first.
4. He won’t marry you first.
5. He won’t marry you first.
6. He won’t marry you first.

Not surprisingly, the former America’s Next Top Model contestant’s statement was met with harsh criticism by those calling her perspective dated and suggesting she “get with the times.”

And others refuted Darrow’s tweet by arguing that the institution of marriage shouldn’t even exist, and people should just do “whatever works for them”…

Thankfully, a few brave souls stepped into the raging Twitter war to defend Darrow’s sound advice:

While many people may mock these Christian values as outdated or senseless, ironically enough, research supports the idea that cohabitation does not lead to more successful long-term relationships.

According to studies by the Council on Contemporary Families, “In the last 50 years, the percentage of men and women who cohabit before marriage – ‘living in sin’ as it was still called in the 1960s – has increased by almost 900 percent.”

And while cohabitation is drastically on the rise, so is the divorce rate, which many researchers argue counters the common “test drive” myth.

Amidst a society that devalues the institution of marriage, I’m thankful for bold souls like Darrow willing to go against the grain by speaking Truth to a generation that desperately needs it.

The Day My Parents Split Up

0

A viral Facebook post by Sean Whalen has been shared by thousands after an encounter with a waitress inspired him to vulnerably pour his heart out about his parents’ divorce and where it’s led him today.

During dinner at a Chinese restaurant with his son, a revelation hit Whalen about the spiritual and physical fortitude his mother had to have to keep pressing forward as a single parent. He didn’t appreciate it so much then, but as he watched the young waitress serving them that night, the memories began to flood his mind like it was yesterday.

Sean suddenly realized what he had been missing all of these years. As a single parent himself, he now knew exactly what his mom went through, and his heart overflowed with gratitude.

His viral post about “The day his parents split up” and the inspiring chain of events that followed has warmed the hearts of thousands around the world, as it pays tribute to hard-working, God-fearing, single mamas everywhere—but especially, his own:

“The day my parents split up is forever etched in my mind.

Me and dad get into a big fight.

Me, mom and my little brother take off cause my dad is going nuts.

We stayed at a hotel that night.

When we came back the next day my dad had changed the locks.

I watched my mom plead with him through the door to let us in to get clothes, etc.

He wouldn’t.

We had to go back later that day with a police escort.

I’ll never forget the cops handing me a black trash bag saying I had 10 minutes to take the necessities.

I loaded up all the clothes I could fit into the bag, and that was the last time I ever stepped foot into the house I was raised in.

No baseball trophies.
None of my 10,000 baseball cards.
None of my stuff.
Hell, I left my pet turtle.

Me, mom and my little brother moved into a little condo and didn’t have [jack].

People from the church brought over pots, pans, couches, beds and food.

My dad cashed out the bank and literally left my mom with the money in her pocket.

Not a [dang] thing she could do.

No family around.
No real support other than strangers from church.

I only began to realize what mom went through working multiple jobs when I became a single parent.

I never understood when I was younger the grind and effort she put in for me and my little brother.

She hustled.

She worked her a** off to just get by.

She did everything she could so that my brother and I had everything we ever wanted.

But she worked, man.

Hard.

I still to this day don’t know how she did it.

I have no idea how she didn’t throw in the towel at times.

I would have.

I remember vividly walking past her room countless nights seeing her on her knees praying.

I can only fathom what those conversations were like between her and God.

I can only fathom the amount of tears that poured down this sweet woman’s face as she pleaded with God for a break.

I have felt some intense pain in my day.

I’ve questioned many things, but this single mom with two boys never gave up.

She never one time gave up.

Tonight as my son and I sat at this little crappy Chinese joint we love, there was a new waitress.

She stuck out like a sore thumb.

The owners are Chinese.

The workers are Chinese.

And this little white waitress.

She was absolutely fantastic and kept complimenting my son on his manners.

We ate our dinner.

Over small talk and water refills, I got the sense that this single mom didn’t want to be there, but had to be there and she was doing her best to smile.

It tore my heart out.

I thought of my mom, and I saw the same hustle in this woman that I saw in my mom.

A single mom.

Maybe by choice.
Maybe not.

But working on a Wednesday night to ensure she can put food on the table and shoes on the kids feet.

Not for opulence.
Not for status.
But to live.

To hopefully be able to provide the things for her kids that will put a smile on their face.

I empathized for her.

I felt her pain.

I kept thinking of my mom and how difficult it is for a single woman to go from home maker, to bread winner.

I can’t even begin to understand what that must be like for some moms.

I know my tip won’t pay her rent.
I know my tip won’t pay for kids braces.
I know my tip won’t keep the fridge full.

Facebook

But I hoped tonight in some way it might put a smile on her face, and she can go home to her babies happier than when she left them.

I don’t know her whole story.

I don’t need to.

I felt tonight that maybe along the way someone did this for my mom, and that’s what kept her going on nights she wanted to quit.

I don’t know.

I’ll likely never know.

But I do know this.

I have been blessed beyond measure, and my mother paved the way for my persistence.

She showed me how to bounce back.

She showed me what work and effort is.

I hope this small gesture with my son tonight brightens this woman’s life so she can wake up tomorrow and fight a good fight.

Single moms who grind…RESPECT.

You are beautiful and your posterity will learn from your efforts. They are watching you.

Just as I watched my mom.

Mom I love you.

You are my hero.”
