A Local Hospital ER Treated Shipley for Nail Glue in Her Eye
Once at the hospital, Shipley continued to record updates. The doctors quickly examined her eye. She was in so much pain.
“The doctors and nurses were very helpful, and immediately numbed it with eye drops,” recalled Shipley. “Then they looked for tears and abrasions and used a Q-tip to fish the hardened shards of glue out.”
The ER staff used a plastic lens, called a Morgan Lens, that is placed under the eyelid to help drain the eye.

Shipley explained, “The acid in the nail glue had altered the pH level of my eye, so they had to get all that out. That flush took 30 to 45 minutes.”
After the short stay, she was sent home with some ointment for continued healing.
“I knew I would be embarrassed and there would be stupid comments, but it was more about letting people know: keep this stuff separate,” said Shipley. “I was a first time eye drop user so I didn’t think about it but now, I keep all my medications separate.”
