Mom’s Honest Post to Daughter’s Stepmom Goes Viral: “Reconsider What’s Truly Best for Your Child”

A girl has a lot of role models in her life. For most, it starts with their mother, followed by influences like teachers, coaches, moms of friends and other positive female figures that come into their lives.

But what happens when one of those figures is a woman who takes on the shared role of “mommy.”

Brittney Johnson wrote a Facebook post “to all of the mothers out there who throw a fit when another woman treats your child as her own,” and people are TOTALLY in love with it.

Knowing her daughter, Payton, would be raised in two separate homes, Brittney prayed for the woman her daughter’s father would be with.

“Kayla has been a gift of so much more than I could have hoped for,” Jessica writes. “She started nursing school and Payton has been infatuated ever since. So Kayla ordered a pair of mini scrubs for her to match.”

Like any mom, Jessica says she’s raising a strong little girl who is both smart and sweet.

“I want nothing more than for her to be surrounded with role models who are exactly that.”

Role models like Kayla, who inspire and encourage Payton to dream big.

“Thank you Kayla for showing Payton how to chase her dreams, how to work hard and stay up late to study for a test. Thank you for still making time to ride her bike with her and make her mac and cheese even in one of the stressful times of your life. You’re a true role model and an amazing bonus mom and we are so proud of you!”

To other parents out there who find themselves co-parenting, Brittney knows it can be a struggle. Her advice is to “reconsider what’s truly best for your child.”

Sure, Brittney could be all uptight and salty toward Kayla, because Payton already has a mommy. But kids learn from their parents, and that type of attitude isn’t healthy for anyone.

“Payton has more people to love her this way, and what more could a mother ever want for her child? Being best friends with me AND being best friends with Kayla, is exactly where P deserves to be.”

She ends her post by reminding others that “it takes a village” to raise a child.

“And I happen to love mine.”
