Patrick Mahomes Thanks God for the Platform He’s Been Given After Winning Another NFL MVP Award

On Thursday (Feb. 9), Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was announced as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2022 season at the NFL Honors Awards.

This is the 27-year-old’s second MVP award. He previously won the honor in 2018.

Mahomes was the the clear cut winner, receiving 48 of the 50 first-place votes, beating out fellow quarterbacks Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles), Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills), and Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals).

Mahomes finished the regular season leading the all quarterbacks in passing yards (5,250), touchdown passes (41), and total quarterback rating (77.5).

The six-year quarterback is headed to his third Super Bowl in four years. In 2020, Mahomes led the his Chiefs in a win over the San Francisco 49ers to collect his first Super Bowl victory. Mahomes and the Chiefs fell short in their 2021 appearance against the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This Sunday (Feb. 12), Mahomes hopes to collect another Super Bowl victory, this time against the Jalen Hurts-led Philadelphia Eagles.

“I thank God for giving me this platform and putting so many amazing people around me to help support this dream I’ve had since I was a little kid,” Mahomes said in a pre-recorded speech. “Without him, none of this would even be possible.”

“To my wife Brittany, my baby girl Sterling, and my son Bronze. This crazy life that we’re living means nothing without y’all keeping me balanced and making me appreciate every single day. No matter how I feel coming home, y’all bring me joy and made me appreciate the time that I get to spend with y’all. Thank you for always being there for me through my good times and my bad—Love y’all,” Mahomes continued.

Mahomes then thanked the rest of his family for supporting him and pushing him to follow his dreams. He also thanked the Chiefs organization, his coaches, and his teammates, saying, “I would never be standing here today without y’all every day.”

Concluding his acceptance speech, Mahomes reminded everyone that the Chiefs’ ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl this Sunday.

During a press conference earlier this week, Mahomes told reporters that his “Christian faith plays a role in everything” he does. “I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for his name. So it has a role in everything that I do. And obviously, it will be on a huge stage in the Super Bowl that he’s given me and how to make sure I’m glorifying him while I do it.”

Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts Express Gratitude to God Ahead of Super Bowl LVII

Super Bowl LVII will feature the first-ever matchup between two Black quarterbacks—both of whom are outspoken Christians. Patrick Mahomes is taking the Kansas City Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in four years, and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles is making his debut at the big game this Sunday.

After their respective AFC and NFC Championship matchups, both athletes expressed their gratitude to God.

Patrick Mahomes Thanks God Ahead of Super Bowl LVII

Mahomes, usually an agile runner, suffered an ankle sprain that limited his mobility in the AFC championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 27-year-old quarterback, seen limping during the showdown at his home, Arrowhead Stadium, credits God with providing physical strength and healing.

“I want to thank God,” Mahomes told Tracy Wolfson of CBS during a post-game interview. “He healed my body this week. To battle through that, he gave me the strength to be out here.”

Mahomes grew up going to church and was baptized in the seventh grade. He has described faith as “always…a big part of what I do,” saying it “really helps you know why you’re playing the game, and who you’re doing it for.”

Chiefs co-owner Clark Hunt, also an outspoken Christian, partners with local churches and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to hold chapel services at Arrowhead before home games. After his team’s 23-20 victory against Cincinnati, he accepted the Lamar Hunt AFC Championship Trophy, named for his late father, saying, “The Lord has blessed our family in so many ways, including with the best fan base.”

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts References John 13:7

Jalen Hurts also speaks frequently about his faith in Jesus. Following his NFC Championship win at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, he expressed gratitude for God and his teammates. “Only God knows the things that each individual on this team has been able to overcome to come together as a team and do something special,” the 24-year-old said.

The Eagles, who lost only three games during the regular season, defeated the injury-stricken San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-7.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Hurts referenced his rocky road from second-round draft pick to Super Bowl contender. “It always handles itself,” he said of life’s twists and turns. “My favorite [Bible] verse, I went through a lot of stuff in college, and it kind of stuck with me, John 13:7: ‘You may not know now, but later you’ll understand.’ Hopefully people understand.”

This Guy Lost the State Title—That’s When He Sees His Opponent’s Dad in the Stands

0

Now, this is called sportsmanship.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Minnesota high school wrestler won over the crowd with a hug that came away from the mat – and after a loss.

Instead of getting upset when he lost the 120-pound title match in the Class 3A tournament, Blaine High School sophomore Malik Stewart went over to his opponent’s dad – who is dying of cancer – and gave him a hug. The crowd at the Xcel Energy Center loved it.

True Sportsmanship

“He won,” Stewart said of opponent Mitchell McKee. “He was pretty proud, and his dad was pretty proud. So I went over there and I shook his hand, embraced him a little bit, and told him to stay strong and everybody loves him.”

“I got a little teary because I lost the match, and I knew the hard times he was going through,” Stewart added. “The crowd went wild and I heard a couple people say after I did it – that was pretty classy – but I just did it straight from the heart.”

Stewart lost his own father to a heart attack when he was just 7 years old. He said he was just doing the right thing.

McKee, a St. Michael Albertville High School sophomore, told KARE-TV that he wanted to win the tournament for his father, who has just months to live. He pinned Stewart around 1:22 into the face-off in the match earlier this month.

“It was a big match for him and to be able to hug my dad like that and not be mad and storm off like a lot of kids do,” said McKee. “Really respectful.”

When it was McKee’s turn to hug his dad, people in the crowd cried, stood and clapped.

Josh Prokosch, Blaine’s head wrestling coach, said Stewart took it upon himself to congratulate McKee’s dad.

“You see kids, they lose and throw their headgear, they sit and pout. First thoughts through his mind, are to congratulate Mitchell, congratulate the coach and shake the dad’s hand so that was fantastic,” Prokosch said. “For a sophomore in high school he can see a lot of the big picture, which is pretty rare nowadays.”

Stewart said he knows he will face McKee again, and is focused on his goal of winning two state titles.

“When you go out there, you want to win, but if you don’t win, you have got to be a good sport and you be polite. That’s the biggest part,” Stewart said.

“God is Everything”—Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts on Keeping God at the Center of His Life

0

During an interview with CBS’ Cody Benjamin last fall, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts shared that he keeps God the center of his life after realizing that “God is everything.”

The 2020 second-round pick is in his third year as the Eagles starting quarterback. With a  a 14-3 season and an NFC Championship win over the San Francisco 49ers, the 24-year-old is leading his team to Super Bowl LVII on Sunday. But despite his many achievements on the field in his budding career, it’s his faith off the field that’s garnering lots of attention in the media.

“I’ve just matured and realized that God is everything and he’s worthy of praise,” Hurts said as he discussed his faith. “You have to put [God] at the center of everything that you do. That’s what I believe.”

Jalen Hurts Says Family Taught Him About God

Jalen Hurts credits his family for his strong faith due them teaching him about God. “All my spiritual wisdom, all of my wisdom as a whole, comes from him, in some way, shape or form, whether that be passed down from my father, my mother, my grandmother,” Hurts said. “I just think, in all the things that we experience in life — good, bad or indifferent — you have to keep him in the center.

The young, electrifying quarterback explained that God is at the center of all he does and deserves all the praise for the man he is today. Hurts shared in the interview that someone asked him if by being an African American NFL quarterback in Philadelphia he feels like he has to “open up or be a certain way.”

Hurts replied, “This is who I am. God only made me one way. That’s to be me. That’s to be Jalen Hurts. I think, being in this city, being the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, and just having the opportunity to play the game I love most in the best city of football, I just go out there every day and I am who I am, and I keep God in the center, I give Him all the praise, I lean on Him all the time, and I know that everything unfolds the way it’s supposed to.”

In response to being questioned if pastoring is something he may do when his football career comes to an end, the 24-year-old said that he will “go wherever God leads me.” It’s a plan that former Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles has been outspoken about throughout his career.

Hurts shared with Benjamin that he has “always envisioned being a coach” or something that involves working with kids.

Hurts is not the first Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in recent history to be outspoken about his faith. In 2018, Carson Wentz led the Eagles to a 41-33 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. But the real showstopper was Wentz’s vow to play for an “Audience of One,” and how his faith helped influence salvation and growth among his teammates.

Boy Breaks Down as He Says He’d Take a Bullet for Her—at 1:52, You Won’t Doubt Him One Bit

Lindsay Cochran was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which has kept her wheelchair-bound since she was 2 years old. Though she’s not able to participate in most of the activities other kids do, her physical limitations can’t taint her vibrant spirit.

“She laughs often, cries little, and lives life to its fullest. She has been a blessing to so many, and God has richly taken our family down paths that have been hard but have allowed us to grow in ways we would have never expected,” her mom wrote in a blog post.

What’s most beautiful is the unbreakable bond she shares with her brother. This duo has the most beautiful relationship in the world.

“I would take a bullet for her. She’s my best friend,” he says, tearing up. “I would do anything for her. My life would be nothing without her.”

Grieving Mom Warns Parents About the Easter Candy That Killed Her 5-Year-Old Daughter

0

With new child safety and choking hazard warnings popping up almost daily, the Internet can become a worried mother’s worst nightmare. But it’s also become a key platform for grieving parents to share their own experiences so that others may be spared the same heartache.

While choking hazards regarding grapes have been circulating the web for the past few years, a similarly-shaped Easter candy posing equal danger has slipped under the radar.

Three years after losing her [5]-year-old daughter, Sophie, one UK mother is speaking out about the mini egg that tragically took her child’s life.

“With Easter coming up I want to warn you all about another deadly choking hazard, one that tragically took away my child,” she wrote on Mum’s Advice blog. “It has been just short of three years since my precious little girl Sophie passed away she had choked on a mini egg and I was unable to [dislodge] it.”

Though she frantically attempted to free the candy lodged in Sophie’s throat with all the proper techniques, including ‘back slaps’ and ‘pushing up and under her ribs’, her efforts sadly could not save her daughter.

“I had done a first aid course only six months prior to this event so all the techniques to help a choking child were still fresh in my mind but it didn’t help, I watched the light slip away from my babies eyes,” she shared. “I tried in vain to save her. Sophie was 5 1/2 so not a tiny tot yet this seemingly harmless treat took my angel away.”

While the heartbroken mama knows there’s nothing she can do to bring her angel back, she prays her experience may serve as a warning to other parents who may not be aware of this seemingly harmless but potentially deadly candy.

“If your children enjoy these chocolate treats please watch them extra close and remind them to sit down whilst eating them or avoid them altogether,” she cautioned.

This Young Mom Is Saying “No!” to Leggings. Wait Until You Find Out Why

0

DISCLAIMER: Let me just start off by saying, I am in NO WAY trying to tell people what they can and cannot wear. What you wear is entirely your own choice. I am just sharing my personal story on why I chose to no longer wear yoga pants or leggings in public.

For the past several months, I have been having a conviction weighing heavy on my heart. I tried ignoring it for as long as I could until one day a conversation came up amongst myself and a few others (both men and women). The conversation was about leggings and how when women wear them it creates a stronger attraction for a man to look at a woman’s body and may cause them to think lustful thoughts. God really changed my heart in the midst of that conversation and instead of ignoring my convictions, I figured it was time I start listening to them and take action.

I went home later that day and shared the convictions I was having with my husband. Was it possible my wearing leggings could cause a man, other than my husband, to think lustfully about my body? I asked my husband his thoughts on the matter when he got home. I appreciated his honesty when he told me, “yeah, when I walk into a place and there are women wearing yoga pants everywhere, it’s hard to not look. I try not to, but it’s not easy.”

I instantly felt conviction come over me even stronger. Not that I wasn’t feeling it earlier, or else I wouldn’t have thought twice about the conversation, but after talking to Dale, it hit me a lot harder. If it is difficult for my husband who loves, honors, and respects me to keep his eyes focused ahead, then how much more difficult could it be for a man that may not have the same self-control? Sure, if a man wants to look, they are going to look, but why entice them? Is it possible that the thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings could make a married (or single) man look at a woman in a way he should only look at his wife?

And at that moment, I made a personal vow to myself and to my husband. I will no longer wear thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings in public. The only time I feel (for myself) it is acceptable to wear them, is if I am in the comfort of my own home or if I am wearing a shirt long enough to cover my rear end. I also want to set the best example of how to dress for my daughter. I want her to know, her value is not in the way her body looks or how she dresses, but in the character and personality God has given her. I have been following the vow I made to myself for the past couple of weeks  now and though it may be difficult to find an outfit at times, my conscience is clear and I feel I am honoring God and my husband in the way I dress.

Hero Dad Loses Both Legs After Saving His Daughters in a Snow Blower Accident

0

Just before Christmas, a father threw himself in front of a mechanical road snow blower that was about to hit his children, and loses both legs as a result, in a tragic snow blower accident.

Dad Saves Daughters in Snow Blower Accident, Loses Both Legs

Dave and Clare Miln and their family travelled from their home in San Diego, California to Mammoth Mountain on December 15, 2022, hoping to have a family ski day. They enrolled their 1-year-old (Anna) and 3-year-old (Isla) daughters into ski school at the popular California ski resort in Northern California.

However, on that morning as Dave Miln and his wife were taking their daughters to the ski lessons, family friend, Tsen Bogan shared on the family’s GoFundMe page that “they had a traumatic life changing interaction with a Mechanical Road Snow Blower whilst on their way.”

An Australian Defense Force veteran, Dave heroically three himself over his children to protect them as they collided in the snow blower accident.

According to his wife, “Dave’s actions ultimately saved the lives of the girls.”

Also present, Clare alerted emergency authorities, who responded quickly.

“However, Isla still entered the machine,” the GoFundMe explained. “Due to the extent of his injuries, Dave spent over an hour in the machine until rescuers were able to free him, and relocate to hospital, remaining conscious the whole time.”

Unfortunately, the father loses both legs, as a result. A news report on YouTube shows the father hero and his family:

Although the hospital staff went to work, performing 10 surgeries in three weeks, they weren’t able to save his legs. The GoFundMe page writes that there are “many more surgeries expected,” which will eventually lead to great financial costs.

In his plea for help, Bogan wrote, “Dave is now a double amputee; above the knee of the left and below the knee on the right, as well as breaking both femurs, pelvis, a number of his lower vertebrae, a sacral and finally 3 ribs.”

In the process, medical staff transferred Dave to a hospital in Sydney, Australia, and the family have followed.

Isla, the 3-year-old daughter who suffered some injuries is now out of the hospital, but still under medical care in her recovery.

Isla has suffered breaks in both of her legs and her pelvis, as well as other wounds, and had 3 surgeries and may require more,” Bogan wrote. “She is expected to make a full physical recovery (though a long process for an active toddler).”

In his GoFundMe post, Bogan said that even though the father loses both legs in the snow blower accident, “Dave still maintains his dark sense of humor and razor-sharp wit!”

And “Clare and Dave have shown strength and resilience beyond comprehension. The family has banded together with positive determination for the future,” said Bogan.

Family of 97-Year-Old Woman Sues Assisted Living Center After She Was Locked Out and Froze to Death

0

A family in Colorado wants answers after the unnecessary death of their loved mother, grandmother, sisters, and more. 97-year-old woman unfortunately froze to death after she was locked out of her assisted living facility.

How a 97-Year-Old Woman Froze to Death Just Outside the Door of her Assisted Living Facility

It was February 26, 2022 in the affluent city of Louisville, Colorado. Mary Jo Staub, a 97-year-old woman who was under the care of the staff at a Balfour Senior Living facility was tragically found dead. She had  froze to death near the facility’s door.

How did this happen? A YouTube video from CBS Colorado describes the details:

Being February, the Louisville area was experiencing freezing cold temperatures, and the 97-year-old woman had somehow been wandering around outside the Balfour at Lavendar Farms assisted living facility in the middle of the night.

According to the Washington Post, surveillance footage showed Mary Jo Staub wandering around alone out there with her walker. The footage caught her wearing only a robe, her pajamas, gloves, and boots, and at one point in the video footage, the 97-year-old woman injured her ankle when she was climbing on a snow mound, trying to get to the doors where the nurse’s station was. After that she began crawling to the door where the nurse’s station is. She left a trail of blood in her wake.

Sadly, Mary Jo Staub was outside for more than 5 hours before staff members realized she was missing. Although the surveillance video shows she had banged on the door, trying to get the attention of someone, she ultimately froze to death. The autopsy confirmed that the 97-year-old woman passed due to hypothermia.

“No one at Lavender Farms was monitoring the security cameras that night,” the family’s lawsuit said, “…not a single Balfour employee noticed Staub was locked out of the facility… not a single Balfour employee was present to help Mary Jo in any way.”

Apparently, she collapsed about an hour after she had been banging on the doors and never moved again. Although the security cameras were readily available for the staff to view, no one picked up on her being outside for five hours. And so this elderly woman tragically froze to death.

Mary Jo Staub, who was born in Bluffton, Ohio on February 16, 1925. Her family said, “She lived her life as a devoted and loving wife, mother, and entrepreneur.”

The family reportedly had paid $1,500 extra per month for “heightened care” of their dearly love family member. Yet no one even knew she had wandered outside.

The family’s lawsuit says that the Belfour employees were “negligent” and “failed to protect her.”

Mary Jo Staub’s family told CBS, “Assisted living facilities are supposed to provide protective oversight for our elderly loved ones. The Staub family wants to ensure this doesn’t happen to any other member of this vulnerable population.”

After this incident where the 97-year-old woman froze to death, the Colorado state health department issued eight citations at the Belfour assisted living facility in Louisville, Colorado after an inspection. The police department, however, did not pursue criminal charges.

According to the state health department, the facility has since made changes to correct the issues related to the citations.

Unfortunately, this horrific incident isn’t the last to happen in the U.S. Just in the last few months, a similar incident occurred in Ohio.

Peyton Manning Shares the Shocking Reason Why He Loves Jesus, Drinks Beer, & Won’t Pray to Win

0

Peyton Manning drinks Budweiser, doesn’t point to God after scoring a touchdown, and never prayed to win a football game.

He’s also a Christian.

Manning accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of thirteen, and since then, his faith has been his number one priority. He grew up in a Bible-believing home, and he tries to be the best man he can be…but there’s an important reason why you don’t really hear much about that side of him.

He would rather his actions outshine his words.

Often times, we squish Christianity into this little box of do’s and don’t‘s, stuffing an infinite God into the puny confines of our own minds. We think we know what following Christ looks like, but in his book Manning that Peyton co-wrote with his dad Archie, Peyton reveals how his Christian walk may not look the same as anyone else’s—but it is no greater, and no lesser.

And this is exactly what he means…

Transcript via Minding the Truth:

“Like my dad, I make it a point when I speak to groups to talk about priorities, and when it’s schoolkids, I rank those priorities as: faith, family, and education, then football. For me generally it had always been the big four: faith, family, friends, and football. And I tell all of them that as important as football is to me, it can never be higher than fourth. My faith has been number one since I was thirteen years old and heard from the pulpit on a Sunday morning in New Orleans a simple question: “If you died today, are you one hundred percent sure you’d go to heaven?” Cooper was there and Eli [Peyton’s two brothers] but it didn’t hit them at the time the way it did me. It was a big church, and I felt very small, but my heart was pounding. The minister invited those who would like that assurance through Jesus Christ to raise their hands, and I did. Then he invited us to come forward, to take a stand, and my heart really started pounding. And from where we sat, it looked like a mile to the front.

But I got up and did it. And I committed my life to Christ, and that faith has been most important to me ever since. Some players get more vocal about it—the Reggie Whites, for example—and some point to Heaven after scoring a touchdown and praise God after games. I have no problem with that. But I don’t do it, and don’t think it makes me any less a Christian. I just want my actions to speak louder, and I don’t want to be more of a target for criticism than I already am. Somebody sees you drinking a beer, which I do, and they think, “Hmmmm, Peyton says he’s this, that, or the other, and there he is drinking alcohol. What’s that all about?”

Watch This Mom Listen to Her Daughter’s Heartbeat One Last Time. It’s So Powerful It Left These News Anchors in Tears

0

On March 15, 2010, Todd and Tara Storch tragically lost their thirteen-year-old daughter, Taylor, in a ski accident in Colorado. Despite the unimaginable grief, the couple made the selfless decision to donate Taylor’s organs, including her heart, which was transplanted into Patricia Winters, a 42-year-old nurse and mother of two from Arizona. After a relative posted the connection on a transplant website, the Storches reunited with Winters and experienced the powerful ripple effect of their brave decision. Inspired, they wrote the book Taylor’s Gift (Baker Publishing Group, $15.99) to spread awareness of the beautiful gift organ and tissue donation can be.

Patricia Winters, a 42 yearold labor and delivery nurse and mother of two, felt a deep connection with the Storches family after receiving a lifesaving heart transplant from the teenager. Now I can walk, breathe, pick up my boys at school, Winters expressed.I have a tomorrow because of Taylor. She further noted that her bond with the Storches family is strong, and when it comes time to leave them, she feels a deep ache inside. It is so hard to explain, Winters said. There is so much to our relationship. As a parent, you never want to feel what Tara feels. If my childs heart was in her body, I would want the same closeness that we have together.

The Storches have since devoted their lives to raising awareness of organ and tissue donation. They created the Taylor’s Gift foundation (taylorsgift.org), which has hundreds of volunteers across the United States who organize speaking engagements, registration drives and education services about organ donation. The foundation has also worked with nail polish giant OPI to create the color “Taylor Blue” and the “Paint It Forward” campaign, which encourages supporters to paint their nails Taylor Blue and share a picture on social media, donating $1 for each painted nail to the foundation.

The Storches hope that their story will encourage people to register as organ and tissue donors and speak openly about the subject, as well as to raise Canada’s low organ donor registration rates. Currently, there are about 1,500 people awaiting life-saving organ transplants in Ontario alone, with one person dying every three days. Canada’s rates are one of the lowest among countries that perform transplants. The Storches encourage everyone to take one minute out of their day to register and have a conversation with their families, as it is essential to saving lives.

“I Know Their Names”—School Resource Officer Warns Parents About Sex Trafficking & How Our Kids Are Being Groomed Online

0

I have found that most people don’t understand sex trafficking outside of the extreme scenes on television where a young woman is kidnapped in another country and sold to wealthy people as slaves.

So let’s discuss a side of sex trafficking most people don’t know about and happens in lots of towns with kids you might know. This will happen in any town that has internet and Wi-Fi available to kids.

I know their names.

How do I know sex trafficking exists in Boise? And in every other town in America?Through my job as a school resource officer I’ve acquired fake social media accounts of every kind. I’ve used those accounts to track down predators and lots of runaway kids. In the process of watching what happens on social media between kids I have learned a great many things about sex trafficking and all of the other things our kids are engaging in online.

My wife and I have taken very tough-case teens into our homes for the last 15 years. When you have tough-case kids in your home you also have their friends in your home.  It is in those friends that my wife and I were educated on an aspect of sex trafficking that most people will never see.  My wife and I learned the names of teen girls who are already part of the sex trafficking right here in our local area.

It starts young.

Snapchat is full of people waiting to traffic your children. Step number one is to desensitize them to sex trafficking.  High school age drug dealers (15-25) will often give multiple prices to young females seeking drugs.

Marijuana zip (Approximately gallon zip lock bag)

Straight Price = $150

Price with nudes (depending on perceived hotness of girl) $110

Price with blowjob = $80

This is sex trafficking and it begins with 7th and 8th grade girls that are trading sex for drugs, cell phones, alcohol, car rides, and much more.

Runaways

There are many young female runaways (15-18) that will trade sex for a place to live.  These young girls usually don’t get along with their parents and will start couch surfing at different locations.  A lot of times these young girls end up staying a couple of days to a couple of weeks at low level drug dealer houses.
