Harrowing Rescue Shows Kayaker Saving a 6-Year-Old Boy Left Floating Alone in River

0

A kayaker’s rescue of a 6-year-old boy is going viral after the boy was found alone, being pulled by the current on the St. Louis River in Minnesota.

The boy reportedly got separated from his parents’ sailboat when he got caught in the current and pulled further away from them.

David Jones Jr., an avid outdoorsman, was fishing on the river when he heard a terrifying scream.

That’s when he noticed a 6-year-old, who has not been identified, frantically trying to swim toward his kayak, screaming for his dad.

Jones had first noticed the boy when he put in his kayak at the boat ramp. The child swimming toward the main channel alongside a sailboat.

His level of concern rose after watching the boy’s father pull the anchor and vanish around a bend.

“I hit the record button on my phone and I was fighting the fish for 8 or 9 minutes maybe, and that’s when I heard the scream,” said Jones, who subsequently captured the whole rescue on video.

Jones says he immediately bit off his line and paddled over to the little boy.

The boy grabbed ahold of his kayak, and Jones was able to paddle him about 300 yards back to safety.

In a resurfaced video from July 2022 that’s drawn more than 10 million views on the Newsner TikTok channel, Jones can be heard encouraging the boy to be strong and hold on.

“I believe he was in the early stages of hypothermia. He couldn’t remember how old he was. He could barely remember his name,” said David. “His face was turning blue and he was constantly telling me how cold he was.”

Thanks to his law-enforcement background, Jones was able to de-escalate the situation and help the boy stay calm, despite his own questions: Why did the dad pull up the anchor without his son in the boat? Why haven’t the parents come back looking for their child?

There was no time for questions. Jones’ only concern was getting the boy to safety.

Josh initiated the conversation, but it was Michelle’s witty reply that set the tone for their unique exchange.

Tinder Steps In

The viral tweet caught the attention of Tinder itself. The dating app’s official Twitter account responded to Josh’s post, offering to send the couple on their first date anywhere in the world. Tinder tweeted, “It’s time you got together IRL. You have 24 hrs to decide the city you want to have your first date in and we’ll send you there!”

Chad Michael Murray: On Faith, Family, and Hollywood Success

0

Chad Michael Murray is a name that many recognize from his iconic roles in “Gilmore Girls,” “One Tree Hill,” and a myriad of family-friendly films. However, beyond his Hollywood persona, Murray is a dedicated Christian who has consistently prioritized his faith throughout his career.

Chad Michael Murray: Faith at the Forefront

Murray’s faith is not just a personal conviction but a guiding force in his professional life. He is known for his willingness to turn down roles that conflict with his beliefs, a testament to his strong moral compass. “I stick to the things I believe in,” Murray explained in a recent interview. “Let’s just say a piece of material were to come across my desk, which has happened plenty of times over the last 22 years, that I don’t necessarily feel is what I believe or what I’m selling — then that’s not for me.”

This discerning approach to his career is deeply rooted in his daily spiritual practices. Murray begins each day with time spent with the Lord, drawing guidance and strength from his faith. “I get up every day and I put that spiritual armor on, read the Bible and do some devotionals and then get ready to go to work,” he shared, referencing the biblical passage Ephesians 6.

The passage, which speaks of putting on the “full armor of God,” serves as a daily reminder for Murray to stay strong in his faith. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” – Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV).

Family: The Heart of His World

Beyond his professional life, Chad Michael Murray is a devoted husband and father. Married to actress Sarah Roemer, the couple shares three children, a boy and two girls. Murray often speaks about the importance of family and how they inspire him to be the best version of himself. His faith plays a central role in how he navigates his responsibilities as a father and husband.

“I feel stronger and safer walking onto my sets every day knowing that I have God with me every day. Jesus is there with me every day,” Murray admitted. “When you have that comfort you just feel safe, you feel different, you feel the opportunity to handle more, your shoulders are bigger, you can carry more weight.”

Murray’s commitment to his faith and family is also reflected in his social media presence. In one pinned tweet on Twitter, Murray shared the NLT version of 1 Timothy 4:12, which highlights his desire to be a positive role model: “Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”

Nurse Adopts NICU Baby Who Didn’t Have Any Visitors for 5 Months

0

Sometimes motherhood finds you in surprising ways. That’s the moral of the story for a nurse in Brighton, Massachusetts, who adopted her daughter after the baby, who was born prematurely, went without a single visitor for five months in the NICU. Gisele is the light of Liz Smith’s life, and the devoted mom is sharing their unique and heartwarming adoption story of her NICU baby with the world.

Love at First Sight

Liz Smith, then the director of nursing at Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, first saw her daughter’s bright blue eyes in 2016. Gisele was being treated at the hospital for neonatal abstinence syndrome, a condition in which infants withdraw from certain drugs they were exposed to before birth. The moment was serendipitous. Liz was walking to the elevator when she spotted an 8-month-old girl with blue eyes and a brown curl framing her face.

“Who’s this beautiful angel?” she recalled asking a nurse who was wheeling the girl down the hall. “Her name is Gisele,” the nurse replied.

Gisele had been born premature at a different hospital in July 2016, weighing just 1 pound and 14 ounces. She was a ward of the state, having been removed from her mother’s care due to her condition and need for specialized treatment. Despite the excellent care provided by Franciscan Children’s, Gisele had not had a single visitor in the five months she had been there.

A Mother’s Calling

Liz Smith had always known she wanted to be a mom. Inspired by her own mother, a pediatric nurse who always put others first, Liz grew up wanting to follow in her footsteps. Tragically, her mother passed away from liver cancer when Liz was just 19. This loss fueled Liz’s desire to live a selfless life in her mother’s memory.

As Liz entered her 40s, she began to wonder when her own family life would begin. Despite several rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and attempts at in vitro fertilization (IVF), she was unable to conceive. “I never imagined becoming a mom would be a challenge,” Liz said. “It’s a desire you can try to push away and fill with other distractions, but it never goes away.”

When she saw Gisele, Liz felt an immediate connection. “Since the moment I met her, there was something behind her striking blue eyes capturing my attention,” she said. “I felt that I needed to love this child and keep her safe.”

The Journey to Foster and Adopt

Determined to give Gisele the home she deserved, Liz quickly put in a request to foster her. As she waited for the paperwork to process, Liz visited Gisele every day after work, speaking softly to her and sitting by her crib so she would no longer feel alone. “She was behind developmentally, and I wanted to get her out of the hospital and get her thriving,” Liz recalled.

Three weeks later, Liz received the news she had been waiting for: she could take Gisele home, though the state stipulated that efforts would still be made to reunite Gisele with her birth parents. Liz’s friends at work threw her a baby shower, and despite the uncertainty, Liz embraced her role as Gisele’s foster mother with open arms.

15 Little-Known Facts About the Late Princess Diana

0

Princess Diana, often referred to as the “People’s Princess,” captivated the world with her grace, compassion, and humanitarian efforts. While much of her life was lived in the public eye, there are many fascinating and lesser-known facts about her that continue to intrigue and inspire. Here are 15 little-known facts about the late Princess Diana, each expanded with additional details to give a fuller picture of her extraordinary life.

1. Her Full Name and Titles

Diana Frances Spencer was born on July 1, 1961, in Sandringham, Norfolk. She hailed from the noble Spencer family, which has historical ties to the British royal family. After marrying Prince Charles, she became Diana, Princess of Wales. However, she also held several other titles, including Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, and Countess of Chester. Even after her divorce from Charles in 1996, she retained the title Princess of Wales and her formal style remained “Diana, Princess of Wales.” Her titles were more than just honorifics; they represented her position and duties within the royal family, and she used them to further her charitable work.

2. Diana’s Ancestry

Diana was of noble birth and came from the Spencer family, which has been closely allied with the British royal family for centuries. Her lineage includes connections to King Charles II through his illegitimate children and King James II, which adds a layer of royal heritage. The Spencers have a long history of service to the crown, and Diana’s aristocratic background was well-regarded, making her a suitable match for the heir to the throne. This deep-seated connection to British history and royalty provided Diana with a unique perspective and a strong sense of duty.

3. Early Struggles with Education

Diana struggled academically during her school years. She attended several schools, including Riddlesworth Hall and West Heath School, but she did not excel in her studies and failed her O-levels twice. Despite these challenges, she was known for her kindness, empathy, and talent in music and dance. Diana’s academic struggles did not define her, and she found other ways to shine, particularly in areas that allowed her to connect with and help others. Her ability to overcome these early challenges and focus on her strengths speaks to her resilience and determination.

4. A Passion for Dance

Before becoming a royal, Diana aspired to be a ballerina. She studied ballet and tap dance and dreamed of a career in dance. Although she did not pursue it professionally, her love for dance was evident throughout her life, and she often used it as a form of expression and joy. Diana’s passion for dance extended beyond her personal enjoyment; she supported dance programs and frequently attended performances. Her appreciation for the arts helped her form connections with people from all walks of life and highlighted her multifaceted personality.

5. Her Love of Children

Diana’s affinity for children was apparent even before she became a mother. She worked as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant at the Young England School in Pimlico, London. This role showcased her natural ability to connect with children, a trait that later defined much of her charitable work. Diana’s genuine care for children’s well-being led her to support numerous child-focused charities, including Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital. Her hands-on approach and willingness to engage directly with children set her apart and made a lasting impact on many young lives.

6. Engagement Ring Controversy

Diana’s engagement ring was unconventional for royal standards. Unlike custom-made rings, her 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire ring, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds and set in 18-karat white gold, was chosen from a Garrard jewelry collection catalog. Today, this ring is famously worn by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William’s wife. The ring’s selection from a catalog, rather than being a bespoke creation, caused some controversy among traditionalists. However, it also made Diana relatable to the public, as her choice mirrored how many non-royal couples selected their engagement rings.

7. An Iconic Wedding Dress

Diana’s wedding dress, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, was one of the most famous bridal gowns in history. The ivory taffeta dress was adorned with lace, sequins, and 10,000 pearls, featuring a 25-foot train, the longest in royal history. The dress set trends and became a symbol of fairy-tale weddings. The design of Diana’s wedding dress was kept a closely guarded secret until the day of the wedding, adding to the anticipation and excitement. Its dramatic style and intricate detailing reflected Diana’s unique personality and the grandeur of the occasion, leaving an indelible mark on bridal fashion.

8. Breaking Royal Protocols

Diana was known for breaking royal protocols and traditions. She often interacted directly with people, shaking hands without gloves and embracing those she met. Her approachability and warmth endeared her to the public and set a new standard for royal engagements. Diana’s willingness to connect personally with people, regardless of their status, challenged the traditional, often distant, royal demeanor. Her actions humanized the royal family and made the monarchy more accessible and relatable, fostering a deeper connection between the royals and the public.

9. Humanitarian Efforts

Diana was deeply involved in numerous charitable causes. She was a patron of over 100 charities, focusing on issues such as homelessness, leprosy, AIDS, and landmine victims. Her visit to Angola in 1997 to highlight the impact of landmines significantly contributed to the international campaign to ban them. Diana’s hands-on approach, such as holding the hands of AIDS patients or walking through minefields, brought global attention to critical issues and demonstrated her commitment to making a difference. Her work in these areas left a lasting legacy and inspired continued efforts to address these important causes.

10. Mental Health Advocacy

Diana openly discussed her struggles with mental health, including her battles with bulimia and postpartum depression. By speaking out, she helped destigmatize these issues and encouraged others to seek help. Her honesty about her personal challenges made her relatable to many. Diana’s willingness to share her own experiences brought visibility to mental health issues that were often hidden or ignored. Her advocacy helped pave the way for more open conversations about mental health and the importance of seeking support, contributing to a broader cultural shift towards understanding and acceptance.

11. A Devoted Mother

Diana was a devoted mother to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She insisted on giving them as normal a childhood as possible, involving them in everyday activities and taking them to amusement parks, fast-food restaurants, and homeless shelters. Her parenting style influenced their compassionate approach to public life. Diana’s emphasis on emotional well-being, empathy, and real-world experiences shaped William and Harry’s values and their approach to their royal duties. Her legacy as a loving, hands-on mother continues to be reflected in their work and the causes they support.

12. Her Fashion Influence

Diana was a fashion icon whose style evolved from fairytale princess to sophisticated global figure. Her fashion choices were often symbolic and sent powerful messages. From her “Revenge Dress” to her casual chic looks, Diana’s wardrobe continues to inspire designers and fashion enthusiasts worldwide. Diana’s ability to blend elegance with approachability made her a trendsetter in the fashion world. Her choice of outfits often reflected her personal growth and the messages she wanted to convey, making her a powerful influencer in the world of fashion and beyond.

13. Her Unwavering Strength

Despite facing numerous personal and public challenges, Diana remained resilient. Her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996 was a particularly difficult period, but she emerged as a stronger and more independent figure. She continued her humanitarian work and maintained her dedication to her sons. Diana’s strength in the face of adversity and her ability to find purpose and meaning in her charitable work inspired many. Her journey from a young bride to a confident, compassionate advocate for the vulnerable highlights her courage and determination.

14. The “People’s Princess”

Diana earned the nickname “People’s Princess” because of her genuine concern for others and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. In a remarkable display of bravery and quick thinking, a 5-year-old boy named Colton Franks recently played a crucial role in saving his mother’s life after a horrifying hiking accident in Idaho. The Despite his young age, Colton’s quick thinking during the emergency has earned him widespread admiration.

A Family Hike Turns Dangerous

On July 29, Natalie Franks went hiking in Ketchum, Idaho, with her husband Andy, and their two children. Andy and their younger child turned back midway through the hike, leaving Natalie and Colton to continue on the trail. Colton was riding on his mother’s back when she set him down to find a walking stick. Suddenly, a pine tree fell, pinning Natalie to the ground.

Colton tried to lift the tree but couldn’t. Realizing the danger, he ran for help, screaming. A nearby couple heard his cries, called 911, and stayed with Natalie until help arrived. “This man was lying on his belly with his cheek on the ground, face to face with Natalie, and he was just telling her, ‘Let’s just do one more breath. Can you do one more breath?’” Andy told Fox 11.

Severe Injuries and a Mother’s Gratitude

Natalie was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found she had multiple serious injuries, including a collapsed lung, a severed artery, nine broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade, and a dislocated hip and knee. Her leg was twisted 180 degrees. Andy described her injuries: “Her left leg was twisted 180 degrees around her. [Her] two feet were facing in different directions, like how you organize your shoes from time to time.”

Despite her condition, Natalie Franks was able to speak briefly two days later. Her first request was to FaceTime Colton. “She cried as she thanked him for helping save her life and find her help,” Andy shared on a GoFundMe page set up for her recovery.

Grieving Mother Fights for Online Safety After Losing Son to Viral “Blackout Challenge”

0

In an age where children are getting smartphones at younger ages, the dangers of the internet are more present than ever. One mother, Joann Bogard, knows these dangers all too well and has made it her mission to protect other children from the same fate as her son, Mason, who tragically died in viral “Blackout Challenge.”

A Tragic Loss

Mason was an energetic and curious teenager who, like many others his age, found himself drawn to the allure of online challenges. Despite his mother’s best efforts to protect him, including using watchdog apps and having open conversations about internet safety, Mason fell victim to the “Choking Game” on May 1, 2019. The dangerous challenge, also known as the Blackout Challenge, involves cutting off oxygen to the brain to experience a temporary high. Tragically, Mason was found unconscious in his room, and days later, his family made the heartbreaking decision to remove him from life support.

Joann’s grief was compounded by the knowledge that Mason wasn’t the only child to fall victim to this deadly trend. According to a report by The Independent, the Blackout Challenge was responsible for at least 20 child deaths in an 18-month period, including those of a 9-year-old girl from Milwaukee and an 8-year-old from Texas.

Turning Grief into Action

Determined to prevent other families from experiencing such loss, Joann has become an advocate for online safety. In 2023, she worked with Indiana Senator Jim Tomes to introduce a bill in honor of Mason, promoting internet safety education in schools. This effort led to the passing of “Mason’s Education Act,” which was signed into state law by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb in March 2024.

Joann’s advocacy didn’t stop there. She took her fight to Washington, D.C., where she spoke to lawmakers before the Senate passed the Kids Online Safety Act in July 2024. This bill, which aims to enhance protections for children online, is now awaiting approval from the House of Representatives.

A New Vision for the Internet

Joann is also a vocal supporter of Project Liberty, an initiative led by billionaire Frank McCourt, which seeks to “reinvent the Internet with more privacy protections.” The goal of Project Liberty is to create a safer online environment where parents have greater control over what their children can access. “It would be a new internet, where people decide the safety features they want,” Joann explained. “You could say, ‘My kid can’t see this’ — and nobody could see your kid online.”

Reflecting on the potential of such an internet, Joann shared, “If this type of control would have been available five years ago, I have no doubt my son would still be here.”

A Continuing Mission

Joann Bogard’s journey from grieving mother to online safety advocate is a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting children in the digital age. Her efforts, from pushing for legislation to supporting innovative internet reforms, are driven by a simple yet profound goal: to ensure no other parent has to endure the loss she has suffered. Through her work, Joann is making a lasting impact, helping to create a safer, more secure online world for future generations.

Teen Dies Before Graduation—Then Her Classmates Write This All Over Her Coffin in Sharpies

After battling leukemia for several years, 18-year-old Laura Hillier passed away last January.

She had been waiting a long time to get a stem cell transplant and had several donors become available in July of 2015. However, due to a lack of hospital beds, she couldn’t get the procedure done until August of that year.

The leukemia came back aggressively in November, and she was placed in the ICU before being brought home just a few weeks before she died.

laura hillier

Because of her condition and very weak immune system, many of her friends weren’t able to say good bye to Laura in her last days.

She was also just a few months shy of graduating from high school, but she never made it to that special mile marker with her peers.

So her classmates decided to do something amazing to commemorate the beautiful life she lived that was cut much too short. They turned Laura’s entire coffin into a life-sized high school yearbook and wrote hundreds of endearing messages to their beloved friend.

A classmate posted a picture of the decorated coffin to Imgur in order to raise awareness about the long wait times for patients, which often results in tragedy for those in desperate need.

The motto for Laura’s battle was also written on the side of her coffin: ‘Life is a song. Sing it til your heart’s content.’

And she surely did.

Though death is often represented by darkness, I just love how Laura was laid in the ground in vibrant colors, representative of the beautiful way she lived. ❤️

WATCH: Depressed Security Guard Says Mark Wahlberg Changed His Life in a 2-Minute Conversation

We’ve talked about Mark Wahlberg at faithit.com in the past, regarding how his mother’s faith inspired him. It seems that the propensity to inspire has rubbed off because now it’s Mark Wahlberg inspiring others. According to a depressed security guard who was working on a movie set, Mark Wahlberg changed his life in just a short conversation.

The Depressed Security Guard

33-year-old Jamie Humphrey was going through a hard time back in 2019. At the time, the depressed security guard was working on the Infinite movie set, which released in 2021.

The father of five children from Sittingbourne, England, had been working as a security guard for nine months when the chance encounter, where he says Mark Wahlberg changed his life, occurred.

Just four years earlier in 2015, Humphrey had experienced a traumatic event that led to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as depression for the next four years. The experience of witnessing his grandmother pass away had impacted him so deeply that he began to self-medicated and was struggling to find a way out.

That’s when his dad, Kevin, stepped in and helped him get a job as a security officer in the movie industry. While this was a step forward, he was still self-medicating and struggling with mental illness.

That’s when Mark Wahlberg stepped in, and today Humphrey is a successful actor.

How Mark Wahlberg Changed His Life

Of course, Wahlberg didn’t know Humphrey. Wahlberg just happened to walk by him on the movie set. Here’s how Mark Wahlberg changed his life:

Humphrey recalls, “Basically, it all started when I was doing security for a film on set, and I ended up bumping into Mark Wahlberg.”

It was the 2-minute conversation that Humphrey had with Wahlberg that led him to begin acting. To be more exact, according to Humphrey, it was seven words Wahlberg said.

What were those seven words, exactly?

3-Year-Old Hit by a Car Defies All Odds, Mom Says “God speaks to me”

At age 3, on her last day of school before summer, Shaylie Edwards was off to the park with her dad, when something terrible happened. The 3-year-old was hit by a car, suffering severe brain and physical injuries, and her prognosis wasn’t good. However, Shaylie defied odds in her recovery, and at 6 years old, she’s just finished kindergarten. This catastrophic event changed her mom’s life, too. Erica Edwards, Shaylie’s mom, says God got her through it.

What Happened When the 3-Year-Old Was Hit by a Car?

It was June 6, 2019 in Shaylie’s hometown, Reno, Nevada. Shaylie and her older sister, Emma, who was 7 years old at the time, wanted to go to the park to play, and their dad, Shannon, agreed to take them. The three headed out, and were crossing the street in a crosswalk behind their home when Shaylie, the 3-year-old was hit by a car. According to Erica, Shannon, grabbed Shaylie to get her out of the way when he saw the car, but wasn’t able to get her out of the way in time.

The car hit both Shannon and Shaylie. Although Shaylie had been wearing a helmet because she was going to ride her scooter at the park, she had been thrown so far, that the helmet was broken into pieces. Shaylie flew about 40 feet from the impact after she’d hit the hood of the car.

Meanwhile, Erica had heard a commotion, as the windows were open. Putting down the dishes she was washing, she peaked out the window and saw the accident. She ran to help her family, performing CPR, along with a bystander on her daughter. Soon paramedics came and took Shaylie and her dad to Renown Medical Center, also in Reno, Nevada.

Shaylie’s neck was broken in two places, as was her jaw, and she had a fractured sacrum, broken femur, and brain injury that left her unresponsive. Shannon was in the hospital for more than two weeks; his face had to be fully reconstructed due to seven fractures.

How the Accident Gave Shaylie’s Mom Faith

Once at the hospital, Erica was allowed to stay with Shaylie because of how calm she was. While Erica called herself spiritual before the incident, she didn’t go to church believe in the Bible, but in the midst of this traumatic event she had a calm that she attributes to God.

She says she heard God’s voice telling her “Stay calm, just stay calm,” and she knew this higher power was grounding her for the moment, as well as the future challenges in Shaylie’s recovery.

She told Fox News, “If it wasn’t for that grounding, I wouldn’t have gotten through the last three years of fighting to get my baby back, because it has been a literal fight every single day.”

Listen to Erica talk about her faith after her 3-year-old was hit by a car:

Shaylie’s Recovery

As Erica shared, the calm she received wasn’t only what drove her to faith. At first the doctor’s goal was only to protect Shaylie’s brain from more injury that could have been caused by bleeding and swelling. Shaylie didn’t open her eyes for two weeks while in the PICU. But when she did and they saw her smile, the doctors were hopeful.
